Regional Geology

Brief history of the Department of the Regional Geology

The Department of Regional Geology was established on the 1st July 2018 as a result of the integration of two prior geological departments that existed in the Geographic Faculty of the Belarusian State University (BSU), namely the Department of Dynamic Geology and the Department of Engineering Geology and Geophysics. The associate professor Oleg V. Lukashev leads the Department.

Geological education in the BSU has rather long history, dating back to the end of the twenties of the XX century. The Department provides the education for students (bachelors), undergraduate (MA courses) and postgraduate students. Besides educational work, the Department fulfills scientific research devoted to different geological problems.

Nowadays hundreds of geologists both graduated the BSU and continuing the education are citizens of different countries: Belarus, China, Estonia, Iran, Iraq, Latvia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and others. Among the geologists, graduated from the BSU are leaders of the oil and gas industry, specialists in exploration and exploitation of different minerals, well-known professionals in geological branches of science – doctors, professors, and academicians.

General information:

Currently, the staff of the Department of Regional Geology consists of 21 specialists in general and quaternary geology, lithology, stratigraphy, tectonics, geophysics, geochemistry, hydrogeology, exploration of mineral resources, and other subjects. Our staff includes three professors (DSc), nine associate professors (PhD), three qualified lectures and other executives.

Specialty:

I 51.01.01. «Geology and Mineral Prospecting» (bachelors),

I 51.80.04 «Geology» (undergraduates (MA courses)).
